QS World University Rankings 2022: Hokkaido University is the 145th top global university

The eighteenth edition of Quacquarelli Simmons (QS) World University Rankings was published on June 8, 2021, in which the ranking of the world’s leading universities was revealed. 1,637 eligible universities from 97 locations around the world were analyzed by QS. The result is a list of 1,300 universities sorted according to the calculation of the overall score.



The higher education institutions were evaluated according to the following six metrics: Academic Reputation, Employer Reputation, Faculty/Student Ratio, Citations per Faculty, International Faculty Ratio, and International Student Ratio.


Hokkaido University has been named the world’s 145th best university and Japan’s 8th best university in the 2022 ranking. Hokkaido University’s score gained an increase in the Academic Reputation and the International Student Ratio metric compared to the previous year. The university is ranked 139th globally in Academic Reputation which contributes the largest percentage to the overall evaluation score.
