Regarding Investigation Results of the Information Security Incident
(suspicion of unauthorized access)
On January 13, 2016, the University announced that there was an information security incident (suspicion of unauthorized access) concerning the file server associated with the Hokkaido University Career Center.
Since the file server contained personal information of the students, etc. and information of companies, etc., the Hokkaido University Information Security Incident Investigation Committee conducted an investigation to determine whether there was any unauthorized access or information leakage. Analysis and investigation of the hard discs by a security investigation company commissioned by the University, found that there was no personal information leakage, even though there was a records of unauthorized access.
Regarding the results of this investigation, the University is forwarding a document explaining the facts concerning this matter and apologizing to our students and the companies, etc. affected.
As an institution entrusted with personal information, the University sincerely apologizes that this sort of incident occurred, and for any inconvenience and distress caused as a result.
Hokkaido University will implement recurrence prevention measures including a revision of the management system, and thorough staff training concerning personal information management in order to regain your trust.
