One of Japan’s leading research libraries with a unique collection of materials particularly focused on the Northern Regions known as ‘Hoppoken’, Hokkaido University Central Library contains over 1.6 million volumes and almost half of these are foreign publications. Books, magazines, newspapers and other materials can be read freely. The Library is open almost every day, including Saturdays and Sundays throughout the year. It is also open until 10:00 p.m. on days when there are classes. Students are encouraged to make the most of the library as a central part of their campus life.
