Oshoro Maru, Ushio Maru

Hokkaido University maintains two research training vessels, regularly taking students out to experience the oceans first hand. These vessels serve as a platform for training undergraduate and postgraduate students, and allow for academics not only from Japan but from around the world to conduct vital research contributing to the future of our oceans. The vessels are mainly used to collect marine organisms, make solid environmental observations and conduct oceanographic surveys.
