A Visit to Hokkaido University’s Indonesia Front Office at IPB University
On November 21, 2025, our representatives had the chance to visit Hokkaido University’s overseas front office located at IPB University in Indonesia, as part of a business trip aimed at strengthening international public relations, student recruitment, and local engagement. The Front Office is run in coordination with Hokkaido University’s School of Agriculture based on its long-standing collaboration with the IPB University.
The Indonesia Front Office is led by Prof. Christofora Hanny Wijaya, one of our Hokkaido University (HU) Global PR Ambassadors, and a professor in the Department of Food Science and Technology at IPB University. Established in 2017, the office has since served as an important local hub for disseminating information about HU to students, researchers, and partner institutions in Indonesia.
The office provides guidance on a wide range of topics, including information about academic programs, scholarships, and research collaboration opportunities, helping prospective students and partners better understand pathways to HU.
Daily operations at the Front Office are supported by approximately eight student volunteers from IPB University, who rotate responsibilities. These student volunteers assist walk-in visitors, respond to inquiries about Hokkaido University, and actively promote HU through the office’s official social media account.

- Several Japanese activities in the Open House
During the visit, the office hosted an Open House event, featuring Japanese activities: a takoyaki party, a kimono photo booth, Tanabata wish cards, and origami making. The event successfully attracted students across the IPB campus and created a friendly, approachable atmosphere–demonstrating how culturally engaging activities can effectively raise awareness of HU and encourage interaction.
The visit reaffirmed the vital role that Global PR Ambassadors play in connecting HU with local communities abroad. By reinforcing communication, updating resources, and supporting sustainability, we can further strengthen our presence in Indonesia and beyond.
