International Institute for Zoonosis Control

To establish effective strategies for the control of zoonoses, the International Institute for Zoonosis Control conducts global surveillance to identify the natural host animals and transmission routes of zoonotic pathogens. Collected materials are used for basic research aiming to reveal molecular determinants of the pathogenicity and host range of infective agents. Research materials and outcomes are stored in a database and shared as biological resources for the development of diagnostic tools and vaccines. In addition, the institute handles the diagnosis of field materials collected in other countries. Lectures and training courses are provided to foster “Zoonosis Control Experts” who are involved in implementing zoonosis control in the field.
