On February 5, the Ambassador of the Republic of Kosovo to Japan, H.E. Dr. Sabri Kiçmari, gave a lecture on “Kosovo’s Way to the European Union” in the Small Auditorium of Conference Hall at Hokkaido University.

The lecture was held both on-site and online, and attended by about 50 people including faculty, staff, Nitobe College students and other students.

The lecture was held in cooperation with the Slavic-Eurasian Research Center. After an introduction of Ambassador Kiçmari and the Republic of Kosovo by Professor Tomohiko Uyama, the Ambassador gave a lecture on the history of Kosovo, efforts toward EU membership, and appreciation of Japanese cooperation and support to Kosovo. The lecture was followed by a Q&A session in which participants asked about hurdles to the country’s EU membership, expectations to Japan and so on.

The Ambassador also visited President Kiyohiro Houkin, and Professor Tomohiko Uyama and Professor Emeritus Shinichiro Tabata at the Slavic-Eurasian Research Center, where they exchanged opinions on future cooperation between the two countries.
