Blessed with a rich natural environment, Hokkaido University is committed to advancing research that supports biodiversity conservation and benefits local communities, utilizing a wide range of field research centers, including large-scale experimental forests, marine stations, and experimental farms.

Situated in Hokkaido, the home to the indigenous Ainu People, our University promotes research and education programs featuring Ainu and other Indigenous minorities while respecting their dignity. The activities also involve international exchanges to solve the global and regional issues of Indigenous peoples.

As envisioned in HU VISION 2030, we promote cooperation with companies and local governments and develop real-world applications of education and research, as exemplified by the following projects.
