Special Auditor (SA) and Special Research Student (SRS) based on Inter-University Agreement

-For Students from Universities with Inter-University Agreement-


Students from universities with inter-university agreement can also apply as Special Auditors or Special Research Students (SA/SRS) to study as exchange students.


How to Apply

1. We send application information to the international office or exchange coordinator of our partner universities twice a year, in late August for Spring semester and mid-December for Fall semester.

2. Please fill in the sheet and send back to exchange-programs[at]oia.hokudai.ac.jp.

3. We then send the most updated application packages of the respective faculty.

4.Submit the application documents to exchange-programs[at]oia.hokudai.ac.jpby email by the deadline.

*Please note that we do not accept nomination and application from an individual student. Please apply through division in charge in exchange mobility.

*Details for application differ by each School/Graduate School so please follow the directions of each faculty to complete the application. Policy for course registration including restriction or limitation might differ by each School/Graduate School. Please follow guidelines of each School/Graduate School for the detailed application guidelines.


1. Special Auditor (Formerly stated as SAS)

If you are an undergraduate student and do not choose to join our exchange programs such as HUSTEP or JLCSP, you can still choose to study as a special auditor(特別聴講学生) at Hokkaido University. Postgraduates who aim to take courses and acquire credits are also applicable to study as a Special Auditor.

You select one School/Graduate School of HU to be enrolled and take courses and earn credits. The field of study must correlate your specialization at home university. To find the most appropriate faculty, please refer to the website of each School/Graduate School from the following link.

Exchange as a Special Auditor 2024-2025 (For Undergraduate and Postgraduate)
Program Details Half year or full year exchange experience in which students are assigned to a particular faculty and take classes related to their specialized area joining full-time students.

CSC applicants must be nominated earlier than the nomination deadline above if they need provisional acceptance earlier than regular application. CSC supported students who will apply as Special Auditors need to be nominated and go through application procedures as exchange student. If a student individually contacts a professor and promised the acceptance, the procedures will be ineffective or incomplete. Please go through proper application procedures through home university exchange office and Student Exchange Division HU.

Number of Students Based on MoU, decided on a yearly basis. There will be a screening at each School/Graduate School. Not all applicants will be accepted.

Eligibility

(Undergraduate Level)

Students who meet the following:

1. High academic record at home university in the field of desired faculty
2. Equivalent to JLPT level N2 or higher (preferably native level)
3. Enrollment at home university: Exchange students are required to be
enrolled at their home university as a full-time student during the entire
period of exchange.

Eligibility
(Graduate Level)

Students who meet the following:

1. High academic record at home university in the field of desired faculty
2. Equivalent to JLPT level N2 or higher (preferably native level)
Some graduate school provide courses in English. You are required
certain level of fluency in English if you take English courses.
3. Enrollment at home university: Exchange students are required to be
enrolled at their home university as a full-time student during the entire
period of exchange.

Application Procedure

1. Home university coordinator nominates students by submitting the nomination sheet.
2. Hokkaido University provides the latest application form based on the nomination.
3. Students prepare the application documents.
4. Home university coordinator submits the application documents by e-mail.
5. Hokkaido University screens the application.
6. Hokkaido University notifies the screening results and gives further instruction.

2. Exchange as a Special Research Student (SRS)
If your main purpose of study abroad is centered to research work rather than taking courses and earn credits, you can apply as a special research student.


Exchange as a Special Research Student 2024 – 2025 (For Graduate student)
Program Details Half year or full year exchange in which students are assigned to a particular graduate school and undertake supervision and advise on their research, joining research room or lab same as regular full-time students.

If you have CSC applicants, please contact us earlier.

CSC Joint Doctoral Program Researchers who aim to receive supervision on the research work are accepted as SRS at HU. They need to be nominated and go through application procedures as SRS applicants. If a student individually contacts a professor and promised
the acceptance, the procedures will be ineffective or incomplete. Please go through proper application procedures through home university exchange office and Student Exchange Division at HU.

3. Hokkaido University provides the latest application form based on the nomination.
4. Students prepare the application documents.
5. Home university coordinator submits the application documents.
6. Hokkaido University screens the application.
7. Hokkaido University notifies the screening results and gives further instruction.
