Event | February 20, 2023

Finished Feb 20 2023

In Japan, Teaching in English requires a combination of language proficiency, cultural competency, adaptability, and interpersonal skills, making it more than just a matter of translating slides. This seminar highlights the challenges and opportunities of using English as a medium of instruction and provides participants with practical strategies and ideas to support their students in their teaching practice. It will also be an opportunity to discuss changes in Japanese higher education due to internationalisation.

Participants will familiarise themselves with the important concept of English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI). Through interactive activities and discussion, they will explore EMI and various teaching strategies for its implementation in their classrooms. Participants will also learn how to set practical learning goals to support teaching effectiveness. They will also discuss typical challenges educators face, such as classroom silence, and will have the opportunity to share their own insights and experiences.
