Wine Tasting at the Center of Education and Research for Hokkaido Wines
University News | August 30, 2024
Hokkaido University’s Center of Education and Research for Hokkaido Wines will be open to visitors for wine tasting from September.
The Center of Education and Research for Hokkaido Wines (Japanese website) was established in April 2022 to conduct education and research for the sustainable development of Hokkaido’s wine industry. In September 2023, the Former School of Entomology, a historical building on the Sapporo Campus, was restored and renovated to house the Center.
From September 6, 2024, the Center will open its gallery area to the public where visitors can try tasting a dozen brands of Hokkaido wines. The tastings are intended to convey the appeal of Hokkaido wines to the general public and also serve as part of research into the relationship between the chemical composition of wines and their palatability.
The selection includes a rarely available wine produced from grapes grown at Hokkaido University’s Yoichi Orchard; the selection changes regularly. The details for the wine tastings are as follows:
Fridays, 12:00 – 19:00 (last order, 18.30)
Saturdays, 10:30 – 16:30 (last order, 16:00)
Sundays, 10:30 – 16:30 (last order, 16:00)
Mondays, 10:30 – 15:00 (last order, 14:30)
(Excluding year-end and New Year’s holidays, etc.)
Cost: ¥1500 for a three-wine set (30 ml each).
Visitors must be 20 years of age or older to partake in the tasting.
