Hokkaido Summer Institute
Hokkaido University (HU) in Japan established the Hokkaido Summer Institute (HSI) in 2016. 145 courses, including 47 online courses, will be offered by HU faculties and more than 160 world-leading researchers from over 100 institutions around the world in 2024.
From the year of 2024 we will offer three formats, On-Campus course (Face-to-face), eHSI course (Online), and newly established “Recurrent Education course (HSI for Adults). Participants can choose a format which meets their convenience. Many of the courses are open to both students and adults.
HSI 2024 covers most of the disciplines of the university, and enables participants to expand their academic knowledge and develop skills. They can also cultivate a better understanding of other cultures and improve their communication skills through the HSI. It also gives them the opportunity to attend field training using Hokkaido’s extensive landscape and to engage in active learning so that they are capable of thriving on the world stage. HSI 2024 runs from June 1st to October 31st, when they can enjoy Hokkaido’s beautiful summer.
Each course is worth 1 academic credit. Most of the courses run for one or two weeks. Participants can tailor their own summer program by combining courses according to their major and interests. The medium of instruction is in English.
The HU main campus is located in the center of Sapporo. The city attracts a large number of tourists from across Japan and around the world due to its harmonious combination of natural beauty and urban lifestyle. During the HSI, they can enjoy not only the refreshing climate but also the renowned food, picturesque landscapes and popular events.
