President Houkin congratulated Hokkaido University’s victory in the 63rd Seven Universities Athletic Meet

The Seven Universities Athletic Meet is an annual sporting event in which athletic clubs of the seven former imperial universities in Japan compete. More than 40 competitions of different types of sports were held and the winning university is determined based on the overall points. This year, the 63rd Seven Universities Athletic Meet was hosted by Nagoya University and Hokkaido University was crowned as the winner after gaining a total of 233 points.
Three Hokkaido University students, who were members of this year’s and the upcoming Athletic Meet’s Executive Committee, paid a visit to the President’s Office on October 2, 2024, representing the students. They presented the champion certificate, the flag, and the trophy to President Houkin. The three representatives are:
– Kotaro Kayanuma (B4, School of Engineering): Vice-chairperson of the 63rd Athletic Meet and Chairperson of Hokkaido University’s Athletic Committee (middle)
– Yukari Kondo (B3, School of Science): Chairperson of the upcoming 64th Athletic Meet (far right)
– Yusuke Sugiyama (B3, School of Humanities and Human Sciences): Vice-chairperson of the 64th Athletic Meet and the Chairperson-elect of Hokkaido University’s Athletic Committee (far left)
The representatives also had a brief conversation with President Houkin and Executive President Takahashi, who both congratulated them on their achievement. This marked the 5th victory for Hokkaido University and the University’s first win as a non-host university.
Next year, Hokkaido University will host the 64th Seven Universities Athletic Meet. President Houkin and Executive VP Takahashi assured that the University will give their best support to the students involved.
