Researchers in Humanities and Social Sciences at Hokkaido University (HU) and the University of Massachusetts Amherst (UMA) discussed possible research collaborations on 23 October 2024. They agreed to hold an online event reconsidering the meaning of the twentieth century and how the ends of empires have shaped the global crisis we are facing today. This event’s focus on the Middle East, Slavic Eurasia, and Japan will help us reveal the multilayered complexity of the international system where local and regional events have become tectonic changes in world history. This joint online workshop event is open to the public. We welcome HU and UMA members, including students, to cultivate inter-university interdisciplinary collaborations.

Admission free. No attendance certificate provided.
