Transferable Skills Seminar – Self-Learning Japanese

Event | February 13, 2017

Finished Feb 13 2017

This 2-day transferable skills seminar is targeted at international researchers (Master’s and PhD students, and postdocs), and will be conducted in English.

The seminar is given by a lecturer who teaches professional foreigners, for example industrial experts or business executives, who have been assigned to a Japanese office for the first time. Similar to English-only doctorate course students and researchers, they are busy with their daily lives due to their profession and do not have the luxury of allocating long hours to learn Japanese. If you wish to learn Japanese for the first time, or want to enhance your Japanese skills with minimum impact to your daily research activities, please come and join this two day seminar to find your own way to learn Japanese by yourself.

Day 1 of this seminar will focus on effective learning techniques in order to acquire the language skills needed for working in Japan, while Day 2 will feature simple and practical lessons on basic Japanese.  We ask that you please attend both days.

Day 1: Self-learning the Japanese language

・ Key features of the Japanese language

・ Japanese proficiency levels and achievement goals

・ Success stories

・ Helpful learning tools

Day 2: Lesson on basic Japanese

・ Basic pronunciation and grammar

・ Talk a bit about yourself (beginner level)

・ Talk more about yourself (intermediate level)

・ Conversations in the lab
