Otaki Seminar House

This facility is closed as of April 30, 2023.


The Otaki Seminar House is a residential training facility established for students and faculty members of national universities and technical colleges in Hokkaido. It was made to promote mutual exchange and friendship and to enhance education by facilitating student curricular and extracurricular activities.  The Otaki area of Date adjoins Shikotsu-Toya National Park and has a quiet environment blessed with an abundance of nature in all seasons.  The facility is ideal for seminars, study circles and other training programs.


The Otaki Seminar House can be used by students and faculty members of national universities and technical colleges in Hokkaido and by other people deemed appropriate. It is generally used for groups of four or more people who have made training plans for their stay. Please note that the maximum period of stay is 5 days (4 nights).


Please submit an application for permission to use the Otaki Seminar House at window no. 3 of the Institute for the Advancement of Higher Education at least 20 days before the first day of use after making an initial reservation by phone. Confirmation will be given closer to the date of use.

If using public transportation, it is recommended that you confirm your departure/arrival time and other details with your transportation service provider(s) since the number of services to and from the house are limited.


By JR train:

Sapporo → Date Monbetsu. Then transfer to a bus.


By bus:

Date → Hokkaido University Seminar House (bound for Otaki or Kimobetsu).

By car:

Approx. 2 hours (100km) from Sapporo via Nakayama Pass/Kimobetsu.
